Partnership Between NengoLoihi and Intel (INRC)

Dear Team,

While browsing the forum, I came across the following information in the topic Error in importing nengo-loihi1.0.0 on new environment of INRC cloud:

“NengoLoihi was developed in collaboration with Intel and their development of the Loihi platform. Unfortunately, this collaboration ended a few months ago, and because we are a small company, the primary NengoLoihi developer (@Eric) has been prioritized to work on other projects. This means that aside for supporting major NxSDK releases, NengoLoihi is no longer under active development. We may eventually update the same padding code to work with the latest NengoLoihi, but it may take some time for this to happen.”

I would like to know if the partnership between NengoLoihi and Intel has been resumed and, if so, what advancements can be expected in upcoming versions. Additionally, could you please inform me about the current versions of NengoLoihi and Loihi/NxSDK that are compatible for project development?

Thank you in advance for your attention, and I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Hello,

Unfortunately, NengoLoihi is no longer being actively developed or maintained. The compatibility is as noted in the CHANGELOG, namely the most recent NengoLoihi is version 1.1.0, and it is compatible with NxSDK 0.9.0 to 1.0.0 (for Loihi 1; there is no Loihi 2 compatibility). There are no plans to ever resume development.

Best,
Eric

Hello Eric,

Thank you for your reply!

And how can I select the options to perform network simulations using NengoLoihi and Loihi 1 and not Loihi 2 with NxSDK.

Thank you!

Best regards.

NengoLoihi has a built-in simulator of Loihi 1, so if you don’t have NxSDK installed it will use that by default.

If you’re wanting to work with actual hardware, then it’s a matter of connecting to a Loihi 1 board rather than a Loihi 2 board.
